Cheque PresentationThursday, May 30th was a terrific day in support of a great cause. SFPE-SOC members, their guests, and corporate sponsors came together to contribute to the Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Kid’s Burn Program. This year’s amount raised was $10,278.11, a new record for us. A cheque was delivered by SFPE-SOC golf committee members on August 21. The cumulative total for the past 4 years we have supported SickKids Burn Program is over $ 33,000. Our total for all charities raised for the past 22 years is over $ 104,000.

On that day we also got together for golf, food, friendship and to catch up on each other’s activities. The venue was The Cardinal Golf Club in New Market, Ontario, about 55 km (34 miles) north of Toronto. The mostly sunny day reached a temperature of 21 °C (70 °F). At registration each player was handed a sleeve of SFPE logo imprinted balls, driving range, lunch and door prize tickets. A raffle was held for a special “Hummer” golf cart.

The golf “shot gun” start began at 12:30 and dinner

followed at 6:00 PM. There were 100 golf participants. Following dinner and announcements the teams were invited to select items from the prize table. The dinner and all 18 holes, putting green and driving range were sponsored by generous member and/or affiliated corporate sponsors. Some corporate sponsors and members contributed with prizes as well.

We look forward to an even greater success next year.

    Regards,

    Mickey Milankov, Golf Committee Chair

Due to the success of the NFPA 13 Hands-On Training Class held in April, the NFPA is doing it again this fall from Oct. 23rd to 25th!

The NFPA has also cut the cost of the training from $1,200 to $599 CDN and that includes three days of hands on training with live sprinkler systems, a copy of NFPA 13 (2016), and continental breakfast and lunch each day.

Hands-on exercises and classroom discussion led by industry experts share new concerns, vital fundamentals, and the knowledge required for comprehensive understanding of top-quality installations. You'll be more confident and efficient in your designs, installations, and analysis through interactive instruction that engages participants in the full range of NFPA 13 application -- including occupancy and commodity hazard classification updates. Shift from the classroom to the lab to experience:

    • Demonstrations on different sprinkler types and key factors
    • Wet pipe and dry pipe demonstrations/explanations
    • Hydraulic calculations in action -- from paper to piping
    • Demonstrations on the impact of obstructions on sprinklers

To register, just follow this link http://catalog.nfpa.org/NFPA-13-Hands-on-Installation-of-Sprinkler-Systems-2016-3-Day-Training-Canada-P16407.aspx?icid=D533
