Engineering A Fire Safe World

HELLO! Welcome to OUR website!

Paul JohnstonThanks for visiting the SFPE Southern Ontario website.

For those of you that are not familiar with us, our mission is to define, develop, and advance the use of engineering best practices; expand the scientific and technical knowledge base; and educate the global fire safety community, in order to reduce fire risk.

To support our mission, we host a series of Lunch & Learn Events where we invite guest speakers to share their knowledge of today's issues in the fire protection industry. Some of the topics covered ranges from code changes to best practices to loss lessons. Our Lunch & Learn events are typically held on the second Tuesday of each month from September to May. You can find out more about our Lunch & Learn events on our Lunch & Learn page. We invite you to attend any of our events! Enjoy a meal catered by Oliver & Bonacini and network with your fellow colleagues in the industry.

In addition to our Lunch & Learn events, we also host annual charity golf tournaments to raise money for charitable organizations. In 2019, we raised over $10,000 for the Burn Unit at SickKids! We are looking forward to hosting another tournament in 2020 and would love to have you to join for a round of golf and to mingle with our members and their guests. To stay informed on our plans for our upcoming tournament from May to June in 2020, please visit our Golf page.

In addition to our own events, keep an eye on our News page where we also highlight events hosted by SFPE International and other Chapters of SFPE.

Aside from hosting events, we also strive to grow our community by fostering the education of future generations of fire protection professionals. Each year we issue two Thomas Chiang Memorial Awards to deserving students in fire related programs to help them with the burgeoning cost of education today. These awards would not be possible without the generous donations of our members. Whether you would like to contribute to the award or apply to win it, you can find more information on our Thomas Chiang Memorial Award page.

We have much planned for this season with interesting seminars and focusing on building our relationship with the Professional Engineers of Ontario licensing board.

In closing, I'd like to thank all of our Chapter members and guests for their support and involvement. If you are not a member, take a moment to visit our membership page to learn how membership with our Chapter could benefit you!

If you have any feedback or new ideas that you would like to share with us, feel free to message me at president@sfpesoc.com or contact any of our Executive Committee members. We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!

Sincerely,
Paul Johnston
