SYNOPSIS:

On January 9th, 2009, an early morning fire at the Muskoka Heights Retirement home in Orillia, Ontario left four seniors dead and six others critically injured. The findings of a subsequent inquest into this tragic fire identified 39 recommendations to improve fire safety in care occupancies. Dr. Dirk Huyer, the presiding coroner for the inquest will provide a general overview about inquests in Ontario with specific illustration of the Muskoka Heights inquest findings, jury recommendations and the apparent rationale of the jury for the recommendations.
