David Laks
VP/Risk Control Services Manager
HUB International

David Laks is VP/Risk Control Services Manager Eastern Canada for HUB International. He brings 30 years of experience in risk control consulting. HUB is a leading broker in the cannabis space and Mr. Laks leads HUB’s Cannabis Risk Service technical group. He’s a voting member for UL/ULC standard 1389 Plant Oil Extraction Equipment (which includes cannabis). Prior to joining HUB, Mr. Laks was the Loss Control Manager with a Fortune 100 food manufacturing company responsible for all aspects of property risk management. Currently, Mr. Laks is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) – Ontario Chapter, and the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI).

SYNOPSIS:

Using actual client and industry losses, review cannabis risks and mitigation strategies. An insurance perspective on risk in the industry and how losses are impacting underwriting. Brief review of applicable standards and how incidents or risks are causing modifications in regulations. General industry review, changes that could impact risk profiles.
